If anyone on this board practices or is thinking of practicing a fighting art, let them speak now. I am a black belt in TKD, have been to three seperate TKD schools, and am currently studying Shaolin Kung Fu, which is considered by many to be the best martial art, not because of it's fighting techniques, but because it has three levels. Martial Arts - Qigong (Chinese moving meditation) - Zen. Zen is the highest human form of wisdom, and the Shaolin Temple was the original source of it. Also, it doesn't have to be a martial art, talk of fighting systems (MMA, Krav Maga) is welcome.

And yes, I know there was an old topic about this, but I didn't think it was the Martial Arts Topic this board deserved and also I didn't want to Necro Post.
I studied Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, which is essentially nine different schools of martial arts:
Gyokko Ryu Koshijutsu
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu
Kuki Shinden Ryu Happo Hiken
Shinden Fudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu
Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu
Gikan Ryu Koppojutsu
Kumogakure Ryu Ninjutsu
Gyokushin Ryu Ninjutsu

I'd avoid saying things about one martial art being the best one to avoid arguments. Besides that I am pretty sure that there can't be one best martial art because "best" is a relative term. It depends on the person.

Personally, I think the Bujinkan is what works best for me. I feel that most martial arts that are practiced today are impractical or are not practical for a lot of real life situations.

okay
i get all mugen-y and just freestyle/improvise
Cye, I've always wanted to study Taijutsu. And yes, I know that every martial art has it's strengths and weaknesses and that there is no "best", but I'm trying to convey what Sifu Wong Kiew Kit said in his book "The Art of Shaolin". He said that Shaolin is WIDELY CONSIDERED the best martial art. I don't want to start any arguments by saying one martial art is better than another.

And Marin, if you believe in enlightenment then you will probably accept that it is probably the highest form of wisdom. Enlightenment is where one understands everything, sometimes in a single second. That is why I consider Zen to be such a high form of philosophy.

it's pretty easy to say things like this when you clearly have the most shallow, passable understanding of what it is you're talking about

While I will say that the highest form of wisdom is such an empty debate that its not worth anyones time, please try and stay on topic

I do not believe you. There are only three ninjutsu ryu that are still taught, and they are taught by only three different organizations, and they aren't taught seperately by each organization. Each organization teaches all three.

I do Shoto-Kempo-Ryu-Karate-Do, a style of Karate and Kempo developed by my Sensei Jörg M. Wolters. I've been doing that for almost 4 years now, very important part of my life.

yes you do know me

you bugged me forever for the url to this place and i would never give it to you
I practice karate and akido.
I do Fencing and used to do Tae Kwon Do. Ever since Fencing was degraded into an Intramural at the college I'm going to, I've hated their football team, especially because they're a losing football team. They claim to have won the first football game, yet they've been losing ever since. They degraded the only thing they were good at for something they suck at. Real smart of them. Stupid college football program... I don't think I'll be going to their football games, even if the tickets are free to students.

I wanted to do Aikido, but I found out about Ninjitsu. The only problem is finding a good place that is nearby. The closest dojo is a place that is a 30 minute drive, though I heard of a place that uses a Catholic School to teach Ninjitsu classes, which is near the college I will be going to.
I used to Thai Box, but that was like 2 years ago...
I used to do Tae Kwon Do, but the instructors were less than helpful. The weren't all that interested in getting me through my Black Belt grading. Now I do Ninpo. Best descision ever.
