Union (ユニオン, Yunion) is a Layer Base released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System as well as the Gatinko Layer System. It debuted in Japan with the release of the B-150 Booster Union Achilles Convert Xtend+ Retsu on September 21st, 2019.
==Description==
Union, like its predecessor Cho-Z Achilles, is a Right-Spin Layer Base, though unlike the 4 blade Cho-Z Achilles, it has only 2 blades molded in the shape of swords, somewhat resembling Judgement, that slant upwards slightly. Unlike Judgement and its predecessor, Union is made solely of plastic. As part of the Gatinko Layer System, it can accomodate any Right/Dual Spin Gatinko Chip and Layer Weight. It also features a gimmick: it has an exclusive add-on piece, known as the Union Swords, which can change its performance through a mode change between Speed Mode and Power Mode. With the addition of the Union Swords, Union 's contact points become longer and it becomes heavier.
Theoretically, on its own, Union is considered to be in Speed Mode, giving it a more all round performance; while with the swords equipped, its is considered to be in Power Mode, which is meant for dedicated attack. Of the 2 modes, Power Mode is preferred, due to Speed Mode being too light to have any niche.
While the extended contact points would allow Union's Power Mode to have a mix of Judgement's raw Smash attack and Zwei's Upper Attack, in truth Union's attack power come nowhere close to the former 2. However, it is competent enough to perform comparably.
==Overall==
Union's Speed Mode was too light to see any tournament viability, while Power Mode is useful as a replacment if the metagame staples Judgment and Zwei are unavailable. However, the advent of Superking layer System, specifically Rage and Brave, have made Union outclassed.
As such, Union is not a must have but is a good addition to any blader's collection.
