"In the time, before time", The great spirit Mata Nui made the Matoran ect ect Three virtues ect ect. Any way, Makuta, his brother(not really, but they were close) grew jealous of his brothers praise, and put him into a coma. So New Toa(masters of the six elements Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Ice, and Stone and protectors of the Matoran) came and kept him from enslaving the Matoran and from the mask of time. They, after being considered frauds by the Makuta in disguise, they revealed him and froze him in Protodermis(this material made by fusing all of the elements), freed the matoran and took them to another island(Mata Nui). the toa came back to find their home Metru Nui ravaged and covered in visorak(a kind of spider monster) webs. They were then attacked and mutated by the visorak. They then had to fight the king and viceroy of the visorak(The viceroy had intentions of draining their powers to free Makuta and betray the king) and cure themselves.

Later on Mata Nui, Makuta broke free and is terrorizing the Matoran by taking Rahi(the animals) and using infected masks to allow them to do his bidding. Then the Toa Mata washed ashore, they learned of their purpose, gathered golden version of their masks(six for each), and saved the matoran. Soon after, they had to fight these insect like robots called Bohrok and were controlled by these weird mask creatures that controlled the mind of whoever wore them called Krana, which each toa had to collect all seven species of each. They then whent to this chamber and used them to transform into the Toa Nuva. After most of the island being leveled(as was their original purpose, and were woken early), the Toa found the lair of the Twin Bohrok Queens and defeated them, shutting all bohrok down. But then, these six elite bohrok called Bohrok-Kal stole the Toa's element symbols(which give the Toa their elemental power) to revive the Queens. With only the power of their masks, the Toa found them at the last minute, Tahu, the leader of the Toa Mata, was secretly given the mask of time, and used it(straining every muscle in his body) to slow down time and somehow make the Bohrok-Kal's power turn against them. Long after, The Toa went to Voya Nui to find the mask of life, but were kidnapped, so Six matoran went after them. On their way, they were zapped by lightning from a Red star, turning them into Toa, but with lightning powers infused with their normal powers. They had to go through Karzhani(the nightmare realm) and finally made it to Voya Nui. They encountered six Skakdi(this one race of people) that called themselves the Piraka. The Piraka were sent to enslave the Matoran and find the mask of life. The Toa then found the Toa Nuva and a seventh Skakdi called Vezon, who had the mask fused to his head, and his monster, Fenrakk. After they fought, the mask fell into the sea. The Toa, then had to travel trough a stone chord that held the island up, where they were attacked by a rahi, that made a hole in the chord. The waters had mutagenic properties that turned the Toa Inika(that was their name) into regular Toa(but they could now breathe water). They encountered six Prisoned(there was an under water prison there for the worst of villians) Warlords called Barraki. They eventually retreved it to find out that Mata Nui was dying. So they Prepared for the final Battle:

The Big Red guy Turned out to be Makuta possesing a Maxilos robot and only Matoro(the guy who grabbed the mask) knew. Anyway, at the end of the movie, Matoro takes the mask while the other Toa fight off the Barrakki and Break the Stone chord so Voya Nui falls back to where it belongs. Matoro Slips under were Voya Nui Was sinking when Mata Nui died, Matoro, then puts on the mask and sacrifices himself to save Mata Nui.

The Toa Nuva who Stayed in Voya Nui, then Go out of what's left of the chord And Fight the Other Makuta That were in the center of the matoran universe. They find these Keystones that they placed in This Large Dome called the Codrex where The Toa Mata supposedly originated from. More stuff hapened that I've missed out on, but whatever happened can be searched.

So Finally, Mata Nui was brought to his robot Body that Holds the matoran universe and everything is good, when Makuta Possesses this robot, Enslaves the matoran, and Banishes Mata Nui into space.

He then Lands on a desert planet called Bara Magna, where the elemental tribes are separated and send their warriors to battle in an arena to settle disputes. The Earth tribe(the Skrall) is the most powerful, and used their power to destroy the arena and nearly take all Of Bara Magna. When Mata Nui comes, joins the rebellion, defeats the skrall, and joins the villages to form a smaller weaker robot. Mata Nui sets off to a chamber where he learns about his past and finds a power source to the robot. Makuta, Then leaves Aqua Magna(the name of the planet where the previous events were held) to Kill Mata Nui. When he arrives, he releases an army of Skakdi and Rakshi(Makuta's sons), but Tahu and the seventh toa, Takanuva sneak out to help. Six pieces of golden armor are scattered for Tahu to find and use to defeat the Rakshi. During this Time, Mata Nui and Makuta are fighting and Makuta is winning, he attempted to destroy Mata Mui with a gravity blast, but Mata Nui tackled him, making them bring Bara Magna's moons toward itself. Tahu soon recovered the armor, and used its power to destroy all of the rakshi in one blast. Makuta senced this, making him stagger. Mata Nui used this moment to push Makuta into one of the moons, Killing him, and releasing all of the imprisoned Matoran/Toa/etc. Using the last of his power Mata Nui brought bloom to the planet, now called Spherus Magna and left Tahu to Lead everyone on to a new future.
