Updating Contact Information for Members

After logging on today I came to the decision that I should update my profile. After all, it was pretty bare-bones and hasn't been updated since like 2011... I couldn't help but notice, but when giving your contact information you are given four options: ICQ Number, AIM Screen Name, MSN ID, and Yahoo ID.

Now don't get me wrong, that's completely fine. Those were the most popular ways to chat with your friends online back when the WBO first started. However, it has been seven years since then, and social media has changed drastically. Shouldn't we update those to sites that people actually use these days? If we're not able, I understand. Websites can be weird sometimes, especially when using plugins. But if we're able, let's do it.

I think we should be able to provide our info for Skype, Line, Twitter and Tumblr (Am I forgetting any?). Sure, you can provide that info on your own in your bio, but the forum not even giving you the option to link them in the contact section seems a little dated to me. Thoughts?
I can actually probably do it, and I seem to remember downloading a plugin that could do it as well. It is true that those sites are mostly old news now, hah.
I guess it's just another one of the little things that get forgotten about over time. Are you by chance also planning a visual overhaul anytime soon? WBO in general doesn't really look "modern." Not that that's a bad thing, of course.
We should get Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and things like that in there.
I think we should leave Facebook out for this. Sure, it's convenient and a lot of people use it, but it doesn't allow you to stay anonymous like Twitter, Tumblr, Skype, etc do. I don't think anybody wants to link to their Facebook on a page that anybody can easily access.
Technically, you can always avoid adding contact information that you do not want to share.
I am an idiot for not even thinking about that.
Also Instagram is popular.

Oh, yeah. Speaking of which, the WBO should have it's own Instagram :3
Yeah, that's a great idea, the wbo should have a instagram accountTongue_out That way we we have basically all of the online whatever stuff,
Just to let you all know, i am not a facebook/all of those internet stuff, so that's wy i am talking like that hahaGrin
I think they should be Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and Skype.

I agree with this. A lot of people use Their youtube account as their homepage anyways.
This is now done and changed; it may not be optimal, but at least those fields can actually serve now.

I think it's fine for now. If we ever update the profiles a bit, maybe we could replace them with buttons. But for now, what we have is fine.
WBO Tumblr please, haha.
Tumblr needs more Beyblade, anyways.
I think you guys forgoit about Yahoo! :p
Yahoo! used to be there, part of the default content, but is it seriously still used ?
Yahoo! is struggling for good reason. It's just email really, nobody used instant messengers these days.
Tumblr is huge with everyone; so I'd nominate it.
I seriously think the format would be great for news and developments; video links to tournaments.

I think this revives the question of "Should the WBO have a front page for news?"

You see, the WBO used to have an affiliate known as Beyblade Spirit, or BBSpirit. BBS was owned by Kai-V for a while, but it's front page was for news, and Kai-V usually did a pretty good job keeping it updated until around the time Metal Fight Beyblade: Baku began to air. Other than that, the site was mostly used for character bios, episode descriptions, screenshots, and manga scans (There used to be more, even a forum at one point!)

Beyblade Spirit went offline a few years ago, but when it did there was a lot of discussion on whether or not the WBO should have a news page that you have to go through to get to the forums.

If we had a Tumblr, I can see it working kind of like that. As funny as it sounds, I was actually talking with Kai-V earlier today about whether or not there were any old html files of Beyblade Spirit laying around (I wanted to make some slight edits and use the old BBSpirit theme as a Tumblr theme)

Perhaps we could make a BBSpirit Tumblr, for the sake of nostalgia, and set the URL as news.worldbeyblade.org. I'm all for the idea.

EDIT: I'm tired, I forgot some details. We could just do that as a page on the site anyway, it's super simple to do. Reason why it would be neat to do on Tumblr is for the reasons you stated. It would be super convenient, as all news would also appear in your Tumblr feed in case you haven't checked it in a while, but also because Beyblade needs to expand it's presence a bit on the platform.

PS - Kai-V, I would really like those html files if they do, in fact, exist. Tongue_out
BB Spirit doesn't exist anymore?

I asked this because I clicked BEYBLADE SPIRIT in Kai-V's sig and nothing happend.

No. I believe it went down in late 2011, but I'm not entirely sure so don't quote me on that.
So now they have updated to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube.   I seriously think we need Skype.

r
Just realised why the profile screen seemed a bit large .. it's because there are two sets of contact information for the YT, INSTA, TUMBLR, FB; the Contact Information and Additional Information.

EDIT: It doesn't link you to the right sites. When clicking my Instagram "haiderthehider" it takes me to www.worldbeyblade.org/haiderthehider

You have to put http://www. before the url for it to link to your page.
